What is Healing Nutrition?

First off, you should know that Healing Nutrition isn't an official term in the nutrition world, it's a term I use to describe the way I work with women in and around nutrition.

For me, healing nutrition is about the physical and emotional healing that happens when you focus on nourishment.

Of course, optimising your diet to include more whole foods, healthy fats, fibre etc. is going to support healing on a physical level. Your cells will be doing happy dances as they begin to start receiving all of the essential nutrients they need to thrive. You'll feel lighter, brighter and more energetic as you start working with your body, rather than against it. You'll find yourself feeling less anxious, more optimistic - give your body what it needs and watch yourself come to life.

Healing also happens on an emotional level. I work with women to support healing of their relationship with food. So many of us (myself included) grew up in a time where dieting was the norm. Cabbage soup, slim fast, weight watchers - you know. And that culture has messed with how we view food. It's been damaging for so many of us. I speak to so many women that are fearful of food, because we've lived so long seeing it as the enemy in pursuit of the 'perfect' body. Spoiler alert: the perfect body doesn't exist - it's a marketing ploy to keep us buying the products that are going to 'fix' us.

It's healing parts of you that were hurt by the constant barrage of being told you're not enough just the way you are.

It's unlearning the fear we've internalised that food is a way to control how we look, and relearning that it is in fact the fuel we need to keep us alive and thriving. It's connection to others. It's a way to support a better relationship with ourselves. It's fun, and creative, and it's a beautiful thing.

If this resonates, know that you're not alone, it's not your fault and most importantly, you can heal!
