What does Conscious Living mean?
What does it mean to live consciously? And why is it one of the core focuses of what I do through The Nurtured Goddess? I'm sure conscious living will have different meanings to different people, but here's my take on it:
Let's first look at the word conscious itself. To be conscious is to be aware. For me, awareness is at the very heart of conscious living. It encompasses living your life with a sense of awareness, of both yourself, and the world around you. Your inner world, and your outer world. Perhaps more importantly, I feel to live consciously is to live with an understanding of your impact on the world - everything has an impact, no matter how big or small.
When we live consciously, we realise that life isn't happening to us, and we always have a choice. Whether that is to choose a physical action, or an emotional response - Even to do nothing is a choice.
I believe living consciously is a really important aspect (perhaps even the most important) to creating and living your life in joy and authenticity. See I said creating? Because that's exactly what we're doing - with each and every decision we make, step we move forward, conversation we have (whether that's with someone else or with ourselves), path we choose, or don't - we are creating our lives.
So many people live unconsciously, living purely through habit and routine, rather than through making conscious decisions. Habits and routines can be an amazing way to create an authentic and aligned life, but usually its the bad habits that go unnoticed. This can lead to feeling stuck in loops, scared to try something new (often through fear of failure) and like you have no control over your life #beenthere
When we bring awareness into our lives, we take off the blinkers. We can see where perhaps our choices aren't aligning with the person we want to be or the life we want to live. Once we bring these choices to the surface, we can begin to see where we can make different choices that better align with who we are (or are becoming).
This is SO incredibly empowering. You begin to see that every action has a reaction, that each little choice can take you a step closer to your goals and dreams. At The Nurtured Goddess, it's not about quick fixes - it's about creating real, lasting change.
For me, becoming more aware of my thoughts, choices and behaviours honestly cracked my world right open - in the absolute best way. I'm aware this blog is getting pretty hefty so I'll share my story in another one, but one thing is for sure - once you start moving forward, it is impossible to go back. It's like a beautiful snowball effect. Once you open your eyes, you can't help but see. More becomes visible, opportunities come knocking, and you realise that almost anything is possible.
So, how do you start living more consciously and ultimately, creating the joyful, authentic life you want? It all starts with awareness. Rather than focusing on what you need to change, stop, take a step back, and try observing instead. Ask yourself why you're making that choice. Rather than judging, approach the answer with a sense of curiosity.
Here's a quick example: You're always feeling sluggish mid-morning and you want to feel energised - ask yourself why. Perhaps you aren't sleeping well - what could be causing that? Is there something you need to process that's keeping you up? If sleep isn't the issue, what does your morning look like? Are you rushed? What are you eating for breakfast? Toast, jam and coffee? Could this be the culprit? If so, let's experiment! What other choice could you make that might serve you better, and align more with the energised version of yourself you want to be?
No judgement, just curiosity - life is a game, don't forget to have fun in the process :)
I'd love to know your thoughts on this. Do you feel you're living consciously or unconsciously? Do you feel empowered and in control of your life? Are you living the life you want and deserve?
Digging deep into your habits can be tricky, and if it doesn't come naturally to you don't worry, it is a skill that can be learnt. Want some support? Take a look at my 1:1 coaching programmes :)
